Young still sets the bar for cleaning

Laundry celebrates 102 years

Young Laundry and Drycleaning, circa 1930. The laundry has survived 102 years in Hawaii by maintaining high quality standards and taking good care of its customers.

Young Laundry helps its customers look good with expert cleaning for everything from Afghans to wedding gowns.

What does it take for a company to survive in Honolulu for over 100 years? It must have dedicated employees doing their best for their customers. It must honor its commitments to its customers and community. And, last but not least, it must offer good value.

"We offer a full array of cleaning services to both individuals and businesses," notes Mike Drace, president and general manager of Young Laundry and Drycleaning. "We have been in the business of maintaining and promoting our customers' image of themselves for over a century."

Founded in 1902 as the in-house cleaner for the Alexander Young Hotel on the corner of King and Bishop Streets, Young Laundry continues to maintain the same high quality cleaning standards for its customers' garments, Drace points out. The standards of that old hotel, once proclaimed "the most luxuriously furnished and completely equipped hotels west of New York," continue today.

The hotel is gone now, but Young Laundry has survived by offering that same old time quality and service while constantly seeking ways to make life easier for its customers.

"Now, with 15 locations islandwide, a Young location is just around the corner from almost everyone," Drace says. "Our web site, www.younglaundry.com., provides tips and pointers on purchasing, storing and caring for your expensive wardrobe, along with coupons and other features. Also on the web site, well known presentation coach Pam Chambers provides pointers to help with your personal and professional image."

As the number one garment cleaning specialist in the state, Young Laundry and Drycleaning is also able help your business bring the company image to life in your employees' appearance, he adds.

"Our uniform division can offer solutions to businesses of any size that are in search of an image enhancing appearance upgrade for their employees," Drace explains. "We can design complete uniform programs for sale, rental or maintenance, including custom prints and designs."

Young's uniform clients include Louis Vuitton, Mercedes Benz, Jaguar, Kahala Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Hilton Hawaiian Village, Watabe Wedding Corporation and many others. The company also offers specialty cleaning for harder to handle items such as bedspreads, blankets, down pillows and comforters.

To provide even greater value, Young Laundry and Drycleaning is a charter member of the "Creditback" network of merchants. With the "Creditback" discount card, customers have a powerful tool for savings at Young Laundry and at many other merchants around the island.
