Wireless Hawaii: Network to success

- Featured Advertisement -

Wireless Hawaii, which opened its doors early this year, was created by Ray Kakuda, a wireless industry veteran, and Hugh Okuda, a longtime local electronics distributor and sales representative.

The goal of their business was to operate two wireless retail locations by forging partnerships with individuals to build the "business-to-business" market.

During the "startup" period, the Carlyle Group was negotiating to purchase Verizon Hawaii. After doing some due diligence, Kakuda and Okuda found out that the new phone company would be offering wireless services and bundling these with landline, long distance and DSL.

So, they contacted Carlyle management and proceeded to work out the details of the relationship.

In May, Wireless Hawaii was appointed the exclusive master agent for Hawaiian Telcom – the new phone company.

As a wireless Master Agent or Distributor, Wire-less Hawaii is a critical link between the carrier and selected independent retailers on Oahu and Neighbor Islands.

Wireless Hawaii facilitates the distribution of Hawaiian Telcoms – wireless products, including cell phones, activation services, DSL and accessories.

It also serves as a critical intermediary and manages the relationship between local independent wireless dealers and Hawaiian Telcom.

As a result, Wireless Hawaii's retail network is made up of independent wireless dealers who service the wireless consumer and business user.

Depending on location, the company's wireless dealers can sell all Hawaiian Telcom's wireless offerings including DSL. As more services become available, its wireless dealers will be given the opportunity to sell even more products and services from Hawaiian Telcom.

Wireless Hawaii recently began offering business plans that incorporate free roaming, free calls to the office, volume discounts and shared-minute plans. It also has the ability to customize plans for businesses – no matter what size – that will save 30 percent or more on monthly wireless bills.

Individuals may contact Wireless Hawaii directly for additional business plan information and they will be referred to a nearby dealer.

Wireless Hawaii is continually seeking out and offering the latest, most effective technology and communication solutions through Hawaiian Telcom for its dealers and their customers.

With offices and distribution facilities located in Kailua, it can facilitate the distribution of wireless handsets, accessories literature and marketing materials to its network of dealers.

Retailers interested in joining Wireless Hawaii as an independent dealer will be armed with the tools, tactics and training needed to be successful in the local wireless marketplace.

Wireless Hawaii will even demonstrate how serving the customer's best interest will eventually lead to increased activations and overall retailer success.
